Spring School photos

March 12-13

All individuals, siblings and grad photos

How to Prepare

Photos will be taken indoors against a spring-inspired backdrop, while the graduates will have a separate, dedicated background for their cap and gown portraits. We love providing variety, so in many cases, we will take full-body shots - please plan for a complete "head-to-toe" outfit!

As always, feel free to send a "non-photo day" outfit for your child to change into once their session is finished.

Pro-Tips for the Best Results

  • Coordinate with Your Home: When choosing colors, think about where you plan to display your portraits. Selecting shades that complement your home decor ensures your photo products will look seamless on your walls.

  • Color Palette: You can’t go wrong with neutral tones accented by pops of blush, light blue, soft green, or navy, grey.

  • VPK Hair Prep: For our graduates, please ensure hairstyles are "cap-friendly" so the graduation cap fits comfortably and securely.

  • Haircuts: We recommend scheduling any haircut appointments at least one week prior to photo day to allow the style to settle naturally.

What to Expect

Expect more than just a single portrait. We spend 1-2 minutes with every student to capture multiple posing options and authentic expressions, giving you a handful of favorites to choose from. In fact, most parents find they love the variety so much that they choose the 'Full Digital Gallery' because they simply can't pick just one favorite!

Expert Styling: Bringing Your School Photos Home

With ten years of experience creating beautiful school portraits, we’ve seen firsthand how the right photo can transform a space. We believe your children’s school photos shouldn’t just live in a drawer-they should be a celebrated part of your home’s aesthetic.

To help you showcase these milestones, we’ve curated these expert tips to help you seamlessly incorporate and style your new portraits within your unique home decor.

Styling a table

Transform an end table, entryway console, or dresser into a curated gallery for your school portraits. Use these three steps to create a professional look:

Create Balance and Dimension: Avoid a flat look by mixing items of varying heights. Use taller elements like a lamp or a textured vase to draw the eye upward.

Layer for Height: If your framed photo feels too low, give it more "heavier" presence by placing it on top of a stack of photo albums or coffee table books. This adds instant sophistication and makes the portrait a focal point.

Anchor the Space: To complete the look, "ground" the furniture by hanging a large frame or a mirror on the wall directly behind your table. This creates a beautiful backdrop that makes your smaller framed photos pop.

Bringing the Outdoors In: Styling with Greenery

Adding a living element to your photo display is the easiest way to add texture and visual dimension to any space.

Incorporate Natural Elements: Plants soften the edges of rectangular frames and add a fresh, organic layer to your home decor.

The Power of One: For a minimalist, clean look, add at least one plant to your shelf or console. The natural green tones provide a beautiful contrast to both neutral-toned outfits and colorful spring backdrops.

Texture and Flow: Try a "trailing" plant (like a Pothos or Ivy) to add movement, or a structured plant (like a Snake Plant) to provide height behind your framed portraits.

Mastering the Bookcase: Styling Your Shelves

A bookcase or built-in unit is the perfect canvas for showcasing a timeline of school portraits. To keep the look intentional and sophisticated, follow these professional staging tips:

Anchor with Visual Weight: When styling a set of shelves, place your "heavier" items on the bottom. Use decorative baskets or uniform boxes to ground the unit-this not only hides clutter but creates a solid foundation for the lighter, more delicate frames above.

Add Organic Texture: A bookcase can quickly become a sea of right angles. Break up the lines by adding at least one indoor plant. The organic shape of the leaves adds a layer of life and a pop of natural color that beautifully complements any photo backdrop.

Curate, Don't Clutter: Use your framed portraits as the "stars" of the shelf, surrounding them with a few well-chosen objects rather than overcrowding the space. This ensures your child’s smile remains the focal point.

Portraits with Purpose: Styling Your Child’s Room

When deciding where your school photos should "live," don’t forget your child’s own space! There is something incredibly powerful about a child seeing their own portrait every day.

Build Self-Confidence: Having their photos on display helps children feel seen and valued. It keeps the perspective on what’s truly important in a home and builds a strong sense of self-confidence from an early age.

Showcase Personality: A child’s bedroom is the perfect place to display those "personality portraits"-the shots that capture their true spirit, silly faces, and genuine smiles.

Designed for Real Life: We know kids’ rooms can be high-energy zones! Our frames are crafted with shatterproof acrylic instead of glass, making them a safe and durable choice for any nursery or playroom.

Timeless Style: To ensure your portraits grow with your child, we recommend neutral frames. These will continue to complement their room’s decor even as their styles and interests change over the years.
